WATCH and LISTEN. It's bloody brilliant. Animation by Piotr Kamler, music by Bernard Parmegiani. 1967.
Polish animator Kamler worked in Paris with Service de la Recherche ORTF - a centre for experimentation in the fields of TV and radio, headed by Pierre Schaeffer and employing the likes of Janis Xenakis, Luc Ferrari and Bernard Parmegiani.
There's a DVD which collects all of his films [so far - I think he's still about and doing stuff though it's hard to find anything online]: 'Piotr Kamler, à la recherche du temps'
cor - love the visuals and the sonix
ReplyDeletelooks like a bit chunk of Kamler work is in this youtube clip - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VNPfT06MUkU
ReplyDeleteBIG chunk i mean to write
ReplyDeleteactually there's a load of animations by Kamler on YTube, all put up by some kind of organisation called Shadoks & Co
and often with Parmegiani soundtracks
which is apt because reviewing a Bernard P box set I concluded that the closest thing to his musical process was animation
in fact i think he started out doing animations before the music
actually it was photocollages
ReplyDeleteExcellent, I had no idea about BP's art background - yeah, the photocollage thing fits nicely. He uses a lot of "found sounds", doesn't he?
ReplyDeleteThe name "Shadoks & Co" is interesting - it's a ref to a French cartoon series of the '60s with an avant garde soundtrack (recently re-released). I was thinking of doing a quick post about it.
